Description

PROF. ROBERT JAN VAN PELT, University of Waterloo, Ontario (Kanada)

The Auschwitz concentration camp is the subject of many books that take many different approaches. This special book is the first of its kind to go into great detail on that horrifying place that formed the backdrop of countless atrocities. Thanks to millimetre-precise drawings and plans created by the technical draughtsman Peter Siebers and impressive explanatory texts by the Israeli historian Gideon Greif, the subject is shown in a new light.

The three main sections of Auschwitz – the Main Camp. Birkenau and Monowitz – are shown in authentic, realistically vivid architectural plans. Drawings by camp prisoners, biographies of victim and perpetrators, photographs of the memorial site today, and detailed explanations of the significance of the various buildings complete this impressive volume.

As a Professor of Architecture and a historian of the construction of the Auschwitz camp, I have often considered producing an atlas of Auschwitz (…). Greif and Siebers have preempted my project, and I congratulate them on having done so. They have produced an important book that enables the reader to (…) see the place that became both the core and the symbol of the National Socialist’s “Final Solution to the Jewish Question”. PROF. ROBERT JAN VAN PELT, University of Waterloo, Ontario (Kanada)

Przejmujące i jednocześnie objaśniające teksty izraelskiego historyka Gideona Greifa stanowią dopełnienie prac kreślarza Petera Siebersa.

Plany architektoniczne trzech głównych części obozu Auschwitz – obozu macierzystego, Birkenau i Monowitz – ukazują cały kompleks w sposób autentyczny, realistyczny i plastyczny. Rysunki więźniów, biografie ofiar i sprawców, współczesne fotografie z miejsca pamięci oraz szczegółowe wyjaśniające dotyczące funkcji poszczególnych budynków uzupełniają niniejszą publikację.

Greif i Siebers ubiegli mnie. PROF. ROBERT JAN VAN PELT, University of Waterloo, Ontario (Kanada)
